President Obama held a news conference today to backtrack on his Iran policy. In addition to abandoning his chosen course on Iran, President Obama also discussed his health care reform agenda.
President Obama stated that Medicare and Medicaid are unsustainable at current growth rates. So far, so good. President Obama then stated that cutting health care costs would be required. Again, good. Then the non sequitur. In order to reduce costs, our government is to require all Americans to be insured. So, to reduce costs, we are going to put millions more people into the insurance system, whether on a private or new super-terrific free government policy?
To reduce costs while simultaneously covering millions more, one must either ration care or slash providers’ fees. Either result is bad for the health care consumer.
