I took a read over the WaPo OpEd by Mr. Dionne, Jr. and I wanted to add the following to ‘Puter’s thoughts – Mr. Dionne believes that this “ideological purity” that the GOP is pursuing (whether or not you believe that or if it is true is a separate discussion) is a contrast to a “intricate coalition that holds together the left, the center and bits of the right”.  Really?  The left and the center are held together by the democrats without qualification?  I know of a number of moderate voters who strongly oppose the democrats and would never be associated with the current democrat party.  Mr. Dionne, Jr. makes a broad, bold, and incorrect statement here.  In fact, the democrat’s “intricate coalition” is falling apart.  A number of long time democrat politicians are retiring in lieu of facing tough re-election campaigns, others are losing or trailing their attempts and there have been numerous fights within the democrat party to pass legislation that, supposedly, the democrat platform endorses.  Really, the democrats have a hard (or harder) time defining what they stand for – take for instance the infamous quote from Rep Pelosi (D-CA) where she declared that the democrat-led congress would be the “most honest, open and ethical congress ever”.  Clearly this isn’t the case and she hasn’t stood behind that platform herself when confronted with ethical violations, closed-door negotiations with special interest groups, etc.

Might I suggest that Mr. Dionne, Jr. start OpEd’ing on why the democrats feel compelled to pass legislation so that we can THEN know what’s in it or how the CBO was pressured into a misguided bottom-line figure on the Health Care bill which now is being revised up by $100B?

Maybe Mr. Dionne, Jr is thinking more of this song for November.

GorT

GorT speaks entirely in zeros and ones, but occasionally throws in a ڭ to annoy the Volgi. He is a massive proponent of science, technology, and energy development, and enjoys nothing more than taking the Czar’s more interesting scientific theories, going into the past, publishing them as his own, and then returning to take credit for them. He is the only Gormogon who is capable of doing math. Possessed of incredible strength, he understands the awesome responsibility that follows and only uses it to hurt people.
