So the Democrats, fearful that Mark Kirk could win the US Senate seat being rightfully emptied by Roland Burris, are trying to inflate hot air into a non-story. As you know, Democrats are quite obviously doing whatever they can to divert votes and tip elections incorrectly. Kirk knows it, too, and knows that opponent Alexi Giannoulias is a prime candidate for some sort of stunt. Kirk has opted to use a commission to validate the votes in certain areas.
Here is what Kirk actually said about a commission’s makeup: “These are lawyers and other people that will be deployed in key, vulnerable precincts; for example, South and West sides of Chicago, Rockford, metro East—where the other side might be tempted to jigger the numbers somewhat.”
All those areas are predominantly African-American, but the reason Kirk listed them is because ACORN and other community organizations were quite active there during the Obama campaign. And Kirk is reasonable when he assumes that voter fraud could be quite high there, since these are the only areas that are largely supporting Giannoulias.
So what could the problem be? Chicago Alderwoman Fredrenna Lyle has accused him of racism, because the word jigger rhymes with another word. Apparently, trigger offends her, too. Kirk, rather than apologize for using English or rephrase what he said, took the offense. “I’m actually offended that they would say that,” said Kirk. “I think every vote should be counted and that we need to make sure that it’s a free…election.”
He is correct on all counts. First, Giannoulias is a scumbag with undeniable ties to organized crime. Second, he correctly identified the areas most likely to be exploited by scumbags with ties to organized crime. Third, Alderwoman Lyle has apparently not been keeping up with the news: calling someone a racist these days virtually guarantees he or she is not. The race card is overdrawn, Lyle. You should have used it way back in 2007 when it still carried weight.
Interestingly, you will probably see more Google News hits for Kirk’s comment than you will see news hits about an emerging investigation of vote fraud in the Al Franken election. Why? It must be an election year, and the Democrats are losing.
