Here is what the media is reporting: 51-year-old Bill Sparkman, a census worker, was found lynched from a tree near a Clay County, Kentucky, cemetary. The word FED was scrawled on his chest. Most stories are either suggesting or completely accusing that right-wing anti-government sentiment was the motive.
Here of course is what the media is not reporting. The body was discovered Saturday, September 12. The FBI was involved immediately because Mr. Sparkman was technically a federal worker at that point. The FBI is not revealing much, and is continuing to investigate.
Additionally, the source of the statement regarding the scrawled word FED has not been indentified, may not be in any way related to the investigation, and has not been corroborated by anyone else, including the nature of the scrawling. Keep this in mind: this alleged message may or may not have even occurred. That someone made the claim is clear, however very few news sources add that he is not authorized to discuss the investigation to any degree of detail.
The left-wing is overjoyed, evident on so many story comments and blogs, that right-wing hatred has finally killed someone.
The Czar has been here before, and fully expectsin a few weeksa terse, quiet announcement on a weekend that the bastard responsible for Mr. Sparkmans murder has been arrested, and is a die-hard liberal who wanted to send a strong message that Obama isnt progressive enough. The Czar is not alone in this suspicion: the victims mother has said she believes she knows what happened, who did it, and why; however, she is refraining from comment until the FBI completes its own investigation. But the murder isnt as simple as the press thinks. Indeed, a coroner continues to investigate the possibility that this is a suicide.
This is a weird, disturbing, and sad story (especially given Mr. Sparkmans immense popularity in the community). But one fact is emerging: right-wing hatred of the government did not kill Mr. Sparkman, not contribute to his death. The facts, as they emerge, will paint a more embarrasing story for the media.
